Working through the day again left us free to head-off later in the day to another Marchese hilltop town – this time Mondavio. The whole place was getting ready for a medieval festival – including a major banquet of roasted wild boar. We toured the castle and all had a go at both the cross shooting and, of course, the archery. Apparently, later today there is due to be a crossbow and archery competition called ‘caccia al cinghiale’ which translates to a ‘wild-boar hunt’. I hope boys remembered the time 18months ago when we stayed in a farmhouse and the hunters came out of the small copse close to our house dragging a dead boar they had just killed. For those that haven’t yet tried it, wild boar is a real delicacy and a wonderful tradition in this part of Italy.
