A short trip from Roche took us to what was the Royal Marine’s camp at the north end of San Juan Island. Abandoned about 100 years ago after the Island was declared property of the US the camp has been maintained as a historical site. The camp is on Garrison Bay and close to Bell Point. We dropped our crab pot opposite Bell Point and then kayaked around to the camp for a couple of hours. The boys completed a state park activity book and earned junior ranger badges. When we came back the pot contained 10-15 decent-sized Dungeness crab – we kept 3 and cooked them back at the marina. That evening we finished off the day with an outrageously delicious crab pasta.
