Don’t go to Port Orchard

Sailed to Port Orchard, tied up the boat and wandered around the town…shortly after we very quickly left. In hindsight we are surprised that this place was rated as ‘Not to be missed’ by our otherwise fairly reliable sailing guide. Port Orchard appears to be a rather run-down and somewhat ‘seedy’ place – the small town has a high number of ‘bail loan’ businesses (we counted 4 in less than 0.25 mile), dirty cafes and grotty second-hand/antique stores. The streets smelled strongly of urine and were filled with aggressive looking people walking aggressive looking dogs. Despite this we had a good couple of days…on the way back we managed to catch a ling-cod (although at the time we didn’t know what it was and were somewhat put-off by its bright blue color).
