My brother-in-law (Daniele) was over from Italy and, having spent too long over the previous couple of days standing in rivers hoping a steelhead would co-operate, set our goals on something a little smaller. Advised by guys at Creekside Angling Company (Issaquah) that, if size didn’t matter, we might try the middle fork of Snoqualmie just north east of North Bend. Conditions were great and within minutes found ourselves hooking some aggressively-feeding trout. Nothing of any major size (largest probably 13-14″) but great fun with 8-10 trout each in a 3 hour session. Royal Wulff size 14-16 seemed to be the most productive although Daniele managed to entice a few of the larger fish out with a quite enormous terrestrial he’d got for the Yakima. I was using my my lightest gear 2wt rod/line with Danny on his 5wt. Working up the river was tricky at times with footing treacherous across some of the rocks – a wading stick definitely helping keep balance.
